Hey Guys!
Last week, I talked about a fantastic book on Coaching by Alex Verlek. Here’s another one by him in the same series – Coaching Mastery in Sixty Questions.
If Golden Rules for Coaching. gives you the principles of great coaching, Coaching Mastery in Sixty Questions brings those principles to life with real-world application.
What is Inside the Book?

In this book, Alex Verlek answers 60 questions about coaching—ranging from the basics like “What is coaching?” to more complex issues like “How do you coach someone through grief?” or “What if a coachee stops responding?”
I absolutely loved the format of this book. Instead of reading it cover to cover, I found myself jumping to questions that caught my interest, which made it feel like a dynamic and interactive experience. Each answer is clear, thoughtful, and sometimes even humorous, making it a pleasure to read.
One of my favorite sections was about coaching and AI. In today’s world, where technology is rapidly evolving, Verlek explores whether AI could ever replace human coaches. His perspective is balanced—he acknowledges that AI can assist but strongly believes that coaching is, at its core, about human connection, something machines can’t replicate. It’s this mix of wisdom and open-mindedness that makes Verlek’s writing so engaging.
The book also tackles real coaching challenges that are rarely discussed in traditional coaching manuals. For example, what do you do if a client ghosts you? Or how do you coach someone when they don’t have a clear goal? These are situations every coach will face at some point, and Verlek provides practical advice that is both realistic and encouraging.
My Thoughts
What I admire most about this book is that it doesn’t just give answers—it invites reflection. Verlek doesn’t pretend to have all the solutions; instead, he shares his experiences and encourages us to find what works best for our unique coaching styles. His writing is warm, relatable, and filled with stories that make you think, laugh, and sometimes even pause to take notes.
If you’re a coach—or even someone who’s curious about coaching – Coaching Mastery in Sixty Questions is a must-read. It’s practical, engaging, and filled with insights that you’ll find yourself coming back to again and again.
While this book stands strong on its own, I would highly recommend reading it alongside Golden Rules for Coaching. If Coaching Mastery is about solving coaching dilemmas, Golden Rules lays the foundation for why those dilemmas matter in the first place. Together, they create a complete guide—one that’s both insightful and easy to follow.
You can get this to-the-point book on Amazon or Alex’s website.
